Google Translate for Writing in an Online English Class: Vietnamese Learners’ Perceptions and Performances

The present study aimed to explore learners’ perceptions while using Google Translate (GT) during online English-Writing lessons and evaluate its effectiveness on English writing skills. Online questionnaires individual interviews were used collect self-reported opinions from 24 Vietnamese students. Learner samples the 12-week session also collected in order identify possible improvements writing. findings revealed that learners generally reported a positive effect their Translate. In contrast, textual analysis of indicated although there slight skills, problems still exist. According an error was conducted, negative transfer structures students’ L1 (Vietnamese) accounted for most lexical syntactic errors identified. demonstrate GT is useful support tool teaching contrastive contributes language interference studies discussions bilingual multilingual education context.
